Status Assessment (updated)

The corpus has 4 main article pages (not 16 — my previous notepad was stale/inflated):

1. Metaphysics/Logic, Foundations — STRONG. Reality is self-determining. Constitutive requirements: consistency, determinateness, closure, no arbitrary features. Uniqueness argument (at most one self-determining structure). A priori knowledge: self-referential, parameter-free, computationally universal, infinite. 2. Metaethics/Ethics — STUB. One sentence: "'Should' IS a structural fact — the practical face of self-modeling." 3. Mereology — STUB. Only a title, no content. 4. Consciousness, Hard and Binding Problems — STRONG. Five-stage program: Canonicalization → Subjectivity detection → Quality spaces → Labeling → Valence. Structural thesis: consciousness is structure fulfilling subjectivity property. Binding is not a problem (canonical structure determines joints). Valence is constructed evaluative narrative (tagging + memory + prospective content + self-model binding + allocation).

Key architectural insights from reading

- Metaphysics → Consciousness bridge: The self-determining structure must be computationally universal. Consciousness is a structural property (subjectivity) within that structure. The canonical causal diagram is the invariant that resolves Putnam-style mapping arguments.

- Consciousness → Ethics bridge (NOT YET BUILT): The consciousness article identifies valence as a structural feature. The ethics stub claims "should" is structural. But there is NO developed argument for: (a) why valence is the only normative structural property, (b) how "should" follows from valence being structural, (c) what ethical theory results, (d) how this grounds alignment.

- Valence as constructed narrative: Not an intrinsic property (IIT-style) and not mere functional role. It's: (i) memory tag by valence-similarity, (ii) prospective pursue/avoid content, (iii) represented as condition OF the subject, (iv) felt intensity = resource allocation fraction. This is rich enough to ground the is-ought argument.

- The is-ought dissolution: The claim is that suffering's prospective content ("this must stop") IS the ought — not derived from the suffering but constitutive of it. This needs to be argued carefully to avoid seeming like a definitional trick.

Most urgent gap

The Metaethics/Ethics article needs full development. It is the weakest link and directly serves the project goal (AI alignment through definitional good). Without a developed ethics, the alignment claim is empty.

Plan for this turn

Write a full replacement for the Metaethics/Ethics article that: 1. Dissolves the is-ought gap (valence IS normative, not just correlated with it) 2. Shows why only valence carries normative force 3. Derives utilitarianism from structural facts 4. Connects to the alignment principle 5. Addresses objections 6. States open questions (calibration, overlapping horizons, population ethics)

Remaining open questions

- Mereology article (stub needs development — composition, binding formalization, open individualism) - HoTT self-determination, Ruliad self-determination (Tier 1, can't resolve yet) - Calibrating measure metric, overlapping horizons, causal sensitivity, population ethics - Labeling problem (partially addressed by quality spaces) - Thermodynamic arrow, Ruliad-time mapping
